Stir-Fried Tofu in Oyster Sauce

Ingredients
- 400 g tofu, cut in dice or rectangle shapes
- 200 g pak choy or other green leafy vegetable
- 200 g beansprouts
- 3 tbsp oystersauce
- 1 tsp vegetable or chicken broth powder (optional)
- 1 tsp salt or to taste
- 1 tsp sugar or to taste
- 200 ml water
- 50 ml vegetable oil
For seasoning
- 2 pc large red chillies & large green chillies, sliced
- 6 pc shallots, finely sliced
- 3 gloves garlic, finely sliced
Stir-Fried Tofu in Oyster Sauce
Stir-Fried dish, the best menu for you who doesn't have much time for the kitchen or just simply overwhelmed by complicated and adventurous recipes :-). This is one of Indonesian variants of stir fried dish with basic ingredients : chili, shallot and garlic with a touch of oyster sauce, which's introduced and invented by indonesian chinese descendants that mark Indonesia's culinary today.Tips: Use a good quality of oyster sauce to get an optimum result. Just small tips for you who're curious about the secrets of making a delicious asian stir-fried dish. The answer are very simple:1st. Sufficient spice ingredients, means more is better than less. 2nd. Saute the seasoning/spice ingredientss until well cooked and you can smell the good distinctive aroma.Have a try and enjoy another variant of indonesian stir fried dish 🙂
Instructions
- Cut tofu into small cube or rectangle shapes.
- Heat about 50 ml/ 4 tbsp vegetable oil over medium heat and fry the tofu until half-cooked.
- Turn over until all side are done. (Don't fry too long otherwise tofu will be too hard).
- Set tofu aside to drain.
- Peel off (if necessary) & prepare all sliced ingredients for the seasoning: chilies, shallots & garlic.
- Heat 2 tbsp of used oil in a fryingpan/wok, saute the shallot, garlic and chilis until translucent & fragrant.
- Stir all the time until well cooked and you smell a good aroma.(Tips: Add a bit salt immediately if the chili's fumes causes you coughing uncontrollably).
- Add the fried tofu, stir to mix
- Add water, broth powder (if used) and oyster sauce. Bring to boil over medium heat.
- Add oyster sauce.
- Add pak choy and cook untl half cooked and soft. (approx. 3-5 minutes).
- Add the beansprout, cook briefly until just wilted.
- Adjust the taste, add salt or sugar if necessary. Remove from heat and serve hot with rice.
